Merry Christmas!!!

This is the time that we gather with our family and friends and appreciate what are the real important things in our lives. We come together to share and laugh about good times and reminsce about old times. It also takes us back to desserts that made us smile. For the holidays, I made Lemon Meringue Pie, Sweet Potato Pies, and Banana Pudding. I also got a request for the most unusual cake....A Hambone Cake.

Noah's Ark Cake

So I received an order to bake a Noah's Ark Cake for a one year old's birthday party.  I also wanted tomake him a smash cake.  With cakes being to detail oriented these days, it is good to have a cake so that the little one can have a field day putting their hands into it and onto themselves.  Here are the pics of the cakes.  Enjoy!!!

This is my newest item that I have added to my Sweet Tooth Creations.  What is a Cake Pop?  It is the newest and trendiest dessert!!!  It's all the flavors that you loved rolled up into a ball and then dipped in chocolate.  These are great for weddings, corporate gifts, holiday parties, baby showers, birthday parties, family gatherings or just because you want them.  They can come in a box, gift basket, or a custom cake display.  You can custom make your order for your special theme party. They are available in Solid chocolate colors, sprinkles, nuts, candy coated, drizzled, or any special theme you want.  So moist and delicious, you can't eat just one.

7-up cake: A Southern Tradition

I love this cake and when my mom gave me the recipe, I was reluctant to make it because I wanted it to come out as good as hers always does.  Yesterday I took the plunge and went for it and I must say that it came out quite well.  This cake is is very moist and all it is simply is substituting the milk in a pound cake recipe for 7-up.  It may seem like the batter is thick but don't worry that's the way it's supposed to be.  When the baking is complete, you will be suprised at how moist and light this cake is.  These are the cakes and I thought that I would ice them in contrasting colors.  Enjoy!!!

Cozy Cake

There are those cakes that are light and fun.  These cakes play with your palate.  Then you have the cake that in its essence, it is warm and inviting like a lit fireplace.  Such is the Cinnamon Vanilla Cake.  This cake makes one just sink into a restful place.  It is soothing and you can have it with a cup of tea, hot chocolate or gourmet coffee.  This cake is the perfect "Fall/Winter" like cake but of course you can enjoy it anytime of the year.  Other cakes that fits this description is the Red Velvet Cake, and Carrot Cake.  I call these type of cakes "rustic cakes", it takes you back to a homey and comfortable place. The first cake is a birthday cake that my Sister and friend ordered and it was smelling so good, I had to make one for the family.

Cosmetology Birthday Cake

This cake was requested by a young lady that I met at the salon.  She wanted to get her friend a birthday cake that represented her future profession, cosmetologist.  She requested the scissors and comb and I surprised her with hair clips around the cake.  Her friend was very shocked, happy, and excited at this cake.  The all enjoyed the cake.  The cake is a chocolate cake with vanilla butter cream icing. The scissors, comb, and hair clips are made with fondant.

Groom's cakes

Groom's cakes have long been a tradition within the Southern Community.  I remember, very well, the groom's cakes at the  weddings that I have attended in Alabama.  The traditional chocolate cake with fresh fruit on top was the added staple to the wedding cake.

However, these cakes have come along way!!!!  The Groom's Cake is now much more personal.  It is not just made from the traditional style but it also comes from something that the groom is most passionate about. For example, if a groom's favorite past time is baseball, then a cake can either be made as a baseball diamond or a cap from his favorite team.  If his job has a particular logo or whatever his profession maybe, a cake can be made to resemble that.

No longer is the Groom's Cake and after thought.  It is now equal to the main wedding cake....and why shouldn't it be?  It's not only the brides day, but it's the groom's day as well.  As always, I have examples of some Groom's cakes for you to take a look at.  Have fun!!!!

Cake Toppers: To have or not to have? That's the question.

These are not your parent's cake toppers anymore.  An evolution is happening in cake world!!!!  Long gone are the days of the little plastic and badly colored (seems like they only had black and white couples) bride and groom.  The cake toppers of today often times steal the show or becomes the Pie'rre de re'sistance.  Some cakes are so extravagant that they can stand on their own, while others need that extra touch to make the cake complete.

Whatever it is, you now don't have to go with the regular plastic people.  Down with the plastic people!!!  You can create your own cake topper and add your own personal touch to your cake.  After all, it is a reflection of your taste, so why not let it speak loudly about who you are.  There are many to choose from.  Such as the retro bride and groom, flowers (fresh or edible sugar), bows, initials, numbers (for birthdays and anniversaries), etc.

Take a look at some show stopping cake toppers and some cakes that stand alone.

It's all about the Display

Cakes have come a long way over the past twenty years and with that, so have displaying cakes.  Just as the bride is the center of attention on her day, especially when she walks down the aisle, so is the wedding cake at the venue.  When you walk into any reception,  your eye is immediately drawn to the cake table.  It can either be a so so table or a table that pulls out all the stops.

It doesn't take much to make the table extra special.  Just the addition of  candles, an extra piece of fabric,  flowers (whole or petals) gems, lights, or words can bring elegance to a table.  If you want a simple table, you can still dress it up with just one of these ornaments.

Tomorrow: Cake Toppers: To have or not to have? That's the question.

Mini Cakes

Just like cupcakes, mini cakes are on the rise.  There are many ways that mini cakes can be decorated and displayed.  They are not only a great substitute for a large cake, but it also adds a personal touch and an elegance to a party.  All colors, shapes and sizes, the skies the limit when it comes to decorating mini cakes.

Take a look at some mini cakes and see if what I'm saying is true.
